Dr. Ann McHugh, Practice Owner
Dr. Ann McHugh is a native of Overland Park, Kansas and her love and respect for animals was kindled early in her childhood. The youngest of eight children, she and her family had dogs, cats, horses, and rabbits while she was growing up. In 1980 her professional training began at the Kansas State University and in 1988 she graduated from the KSU College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1990 she joined the faculty of the University of Florida as a clinical instructor in Preventive Medicine and established a community-based small animal practice for the U of F College of Veterinary Medicine. Her teaching experience reinforced her dedication to high-quality medicine and surgery which is the heart of the LPH practice today. Dr. McHugh established Lionsgate Pet Hospital in 2003 with the goal of bringing thoughtful, caring small animal health to her patients and their families.
Dr. McHugh enjoys hiking, camping, water sports, and traveling with her husband Doug and their little chihuahua, Pico. She’s especially proud of her daughter, Sarah, who is currently launching her career in the music industry in London, England. Sarah grew up with a love for dogs and is an excellent dog trainer.

Llora Cook, Hospital Supervisor, RVT
Llora Cook grew up in Kirksville Missouri, where her parents and grandparents instilled in her a passion for animals. She loved music, particularly the flute, and graduated with a BA in music from the UMKC Conservatory of Music. However, with the love of animals never far from her heart, she began her career in 1995 as a Registered Veterinary Technician, graduating with a BS in Animal Science from MWCC.
Llora’s decision to join Lionsgate at its inception was an easy one, given the attributes she saw in Dr. Ann McHugh, having worked with her in prior years. Llora finds her position to be extremely rewarding and enjoyable. She is proud to work with people who are as knowledgeable, caring and compassionate as any in the industry.
When not working, Llora enjoys spending time with her husband Scott, their 2 dogs, 2 cats and tortoise. They also frequently care for friends’ dogs, so you will often find several additional paws and wagging tails at their home.
Interests outside their home include camping, hiking, kayaking, and her new hobby, stand-up paddle boarding. She also can be found taking a spin on their country roads with her husband and dogs in their 52’ Willy’s Jeep.
Rachel Downtain, Office Manager
Growing up in Dallas, I began volunteering at a young age for the Texas Humane Society. That is how my family obtained our second family pet! I moved to the Kansas City area to attend college, and I worked at a vet clinic for five years while attending school. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Therapy from the UMKC-Conservatory of Music and a Master’s of Science in Management. After doing rescue work for many years, I am thrilled to be working with animals and their people again at Lionsgate Pet Hospital. I call Overland Park home with my son Grayson. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and working on my house.
Jenni Segraves, Veterinary Technician
I grew up in central Kansas, then lived in Lawrence for eight years before moving to Colorado to be a nanny for a sick niece for a couple of years. While in Colorado, I attended Bel-Rea, an AVMA accredited veterinary technology school. I went on to work at a clinic in Colorado for over a year before deciding it was time to move home to Kansas. I grew up with dogs and love them to death, but working as a vet tech for a few years has also really turned me into a cat person! I have also spent a little time working with snakes and bearded dragons. When I am not at work, I spend my time reading, watching tv, or being with family. I have two young adult cats (Studley and Myrnin) and a geriatric dachshund (Maggie).
Jess Hedding, Veterinary Technician
I’m a small town girl from Paola, KS. Growing up I lived in the country with lots of different kinds of pets. Following my passion for animals, I started working in the veterinary field when I was a sophomore in high school. I then attended Allen County Community College and graduated with my Associate of Science degree. Since then I have been working as a vet tech. I am now living in Olathe with my 2 dogs, Ella and Jax. We enjoy going to the dog park as much as we can.
Jorie Franklin, RVT
I have always had a special love for animals and I was lucky enough to grow up with dogs, horses, cats, hamsters, rabbits and even ducks. I graduated from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!) with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. I’m married to my best friend, Chris, and we have 2 boys, Josh and Collin. About 5 years ago, I decided to finally follow my passion for animals and started working at the animal shelter, which opened the door for me to go back to school and get my Associates degree in Veterinary Technology. I became a Registered Veterinary Technician in March 2016 and I absolutely love my job. My husband and I live in Olathe along with our boys, 2 dogs, a cat and a couple of gerbils.
Deb Bauman, Veterinary Assistant
I grew up in Overland Park and graduated from KU with a degree in Journalism. After a 25-year career in Advertising/Marketing in Atlanta, North Carolina and Hartford, CT, I decided to embrace my passion for animals by starting an in-home Pet Care/Training business. I began working part-time at Lionsgate Pet Hospital in October 2014, and have found it to be a perfect complement to my business, enabling me to continue learning and helping pets thrive.
Jodi Schwieger, Client Services
I have always been an animal lover and am so fortunate I get to meet so many great people and their wonderful pets here at Lionsgate Pet Hospital. I am originally from Nebraska, but have called Overland Park home for almost 20 years. I live here with my three awesome boys and one spoiled dog. I enjoy spending time outdoors and going to my boys’ sporting events.
Leslie Ratterman, Client Services
I’ve grown up in the Midwest and have been in the Kansas City area for the last 24 years. I am married to a wonderful man and have two beautiful children. I grew up with dogs in our family so pets have always been a part of my world. As our kids have grown older, my husband and I expanded our love for the outdoors and opened APEX Climbing gym. Since then, the opportunity to follow my passion was filled by accepting a position here. Ask anyone who knows me how much I love my job and the people and animals I get to interact with. When I’m not working, I enjoy hiking, swimming, riding my bike and spending time with my family. The newest member of our family is our yellow lab Nellie. She makes us laugh every day.
Savannah Williams, Client Services/Veterinary Assistant
Growing up, I’ve always had a passion for animals and the need to help them. My dream job was to become a veterinarian, but that career path changed when I decided to play collegiate volleyball at the University of Maine at Fort Kent. After two years, I transferred to Missouri State University because I wanted to change my major to something related to animals. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences. My last semester of college I interned at the Dickerson Park Zoo as a zookeeper’s assistant and absolutely loved it! I moved to the Kansas City area in 2017, got married and started working at Lionsgate Pet Hospital. I couldn’t be any happier with my job! I love getting to know the clients and their fur babies!
Carlyene Zinkiewicz, Groomer
My parents told me that when I was a little girl, I was afraid of every animal except for my Aunt’s big fluffy Samoyed named Yo-Yo. Shortly after falling in love with Yo-Yo, my parents gave me my first cat who I named Trouble. From the moment I got Trouble, I have loved every animal I have come across. When I was a teenager, I volunteered at my local veterinary office. In 2006, I started working as a Grooming Assistant. I became an official Pet Stylist in 2008 and in 2011, I became certified to groom cats as well. I joined Lionsgate in the Spring of 2017 and have loved everything from the awesome staff to the furry clients!
